Wash care

Merino wool and mohair will stay beautiful for years with the proper care.

These natural fibers have anti-bacterial and odour resistant properties, so you can keep washing to a minimum. Only wash them when visibly dirty. You can simply air your knitwear from time to time by hanging it outside.

MERINO WOOL KNITS

Our merino wool items can be machine washed (preferably in a wash bag to prevent stretching) on a delicate / cold water cycle with woolite or similar suitable detergent.

MOHAIR KNITS

We advise only hand washing mohair.

HAND WASHING YOUR KNITWEAR

  • Place your knitwear in clean, lukewarm water. Hot water will make mohair shrink and make wool shrink and felt.
  • Add a wool detergent / mild soap or shampoo. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  • Soak for about 10 minutes then gently squeeze out dirt.
  • Rinse thoroughly in lukewarm water and finally rinse in clean cold water.
  • Roll in a clean towel to remove excess water. Never rub or wring.
  • Reshape while damp.
  • Allow to dry flat in the shade on a towel.
  • NB: NEVER tumble dry mohair or wool garments.

TOP TIP: Make sure to spray perfume and deodorant directly onto your skin and not onto your knitwear. This will keep your mohair and merino wool knits smelling fresh by simply airing it.

STORAGE & MOTH PREVENTION:

  • Always store your garments flat, rather than on hangers, to keep their shape.
  • Store in a cool, dry place - not in plastic.
  • Moths love mohair and wool and prevention is better than cure. Deter moths with cedar wood blocks or herb sachets containing bayleaves or lavender. (Old-fashioned moth balls smell dreadful and contain harmful chemicals.)
  • Never pack away dirty knitwear: it will attract moths.
  • Leave your cupboards open to air from time to time.
  • Vacuum regularly - even inside your cupboards.

PILLING:

  • As with all natural fibres, frequent wearing may result in a bit of pilling. Carefully remove the small bobbles with a fabric shaver or with a new, sharp disposable razor.
