About
I reckon my love story with wool and mohair started when I was just a baby. Two of the most impactful gifts I received from my parents as a newborn, were a mohair baby blanket and a turquoise wool rug. I still have both of these items, but my Basset Hound now sleeps under the mohair baby blanket. He also loves natural fibres...
However, apart from the sentimental reasons, I choose to use merino wool and mohair, because these fibres are sustainable and have a long list of noteworthy attributes. At the same time, they have the potential to impact our local economy all the way through the supply chain. The mohair and wool industries create and sustain jobs starting at the merino sheep and angora goat farms, through to yarn producers and knitwear factories, all the way to the finished products in local boutiques.
In line with my slow fashion philosophy, Luminous Ware’s products are manufactured in small batches with great attention to detail and to quality. I am transparent about my supply chain for yarns and knitwear, because I believe collaboration is the only way forward.
The design and colour choices are intended to be timeless and to bring you years of enjoyment, although I do add touches of trending colours & style elements to stay relevant.
I dream of seeing the African continent flourishing. And of seeing local stores filled with beautiful, sustainably made, proudly South African products.
In essence, our knitwear is designed with you in mind, because I want you to be able to choose local knitwear every time. And to fall in love with mohair and wool like I did many moons ago.
